Kini Kapaki
biography
Kini Kapaki is a film director and writer with a career spanning four decades of professional musicianship, a 17-year presidency of a Nashville music label, and rigorous study in audio and film. Known in the industry as "the Hawaiian Cowboy," Kini draws on a lifetime of experiences, from growing up on an Idaho ranch, to attending high school and BYU-Hawaii in Laie, Hawaii.
Kini served as President of Nashville Records music label for 17 years, alongside Vice President Joe Mansfield — the marketing icon who marketed the biggest acts in the world, Aerosmith, Journey, Chicago. His work included a massive achievement with Garth Brooks, driving sales past 148 million units. Kini attributes the critical business and industry knowledge he applies today directly to his work with Mansfield, who was often referred to as "the Steven Spielberg of the music industry."
After earning an audio engineering certification from the College for Recording Arts and serving as President and Chairman of the Board of a local Chamber of Commerce, Kini transitioned to screenwriting in 2019, reinforcing the career change with intensive college coursework focused on film directing.
